“A Colorado Republican has apologized after posting on social media that he was celebrating former President Jimmy Carter’s death by popping open a bottle of champagne,” Raw Story reported on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 (read story here).
The obnoxious legislator in question is Matt Soper (photo, left). He has a history of aberrant behavior, which makes you wonder what’s wrong with him. According to Wikipedia (here), he was investigated for illegal voting, and “for civil war over several bills before the Colorado Legislature dealing with gun control.”
Soper isn’t a hayseed dummy; he knows better. He has law degrees from U.S. and Scottish universities, and writes for law journals. He’s living proof that a smart person can still be an ass. Why is a good question. It seems to be a personal choice.
And why people vote for someone like him is a better question. Look, I’m not asking for much. But if Republican voters keep electing candidates like him, they won’t deserve respect from thinking people.
