Republicans in Congress have been attacking judges recently.
For example, Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY; profile here), often mentioned as a possible 2024 Trump veep pick, filed an ethics complaint (read it here) against Judge Arthur Engoron, who presided over Trump’s civil fraud trial, and his law clerk — and ballyhooed it here.
Daily Beast reported on June 4, 2024, that New York’s judicial conduct commission dismissed the complaint without an investigation (read story here), which if true will make it more difficult for Trump to assert judicial misconduct in his appeal of the civil judgment.
No decision has been made public, and Daily Beast says it got the information from a “confidential state document,” i.e. a copy of the decision. It’s not unusual for complaints and dispositions to not be made public when the judge isn’t disciplined.
Rep. Stefanik’s office declined to say whether she had received the decision.
