Arizona courts ordered Kari Lake and her lawyers to pay legal costs in her baseless election lawsuits.
They’re asking the Arizona supreme court to excuse them from those sanctions because Lake allegedly “honestly believes” she lost because of illegal votes and misconduct by election officials, which she couldn’t prove in court (read story here).
Sanctions against litigants and their attorneys are intended to make the innocent victims of frivolous lawsuits whole. They’re authorized by court rules, and justified when a party brings a lawsuit in bad faith. The subjective “belief” system of the offending party has nothing to do with it, and this request will be laughed out of court denied.
But let’s look at some of the things Lake believes: (1) The election was stolen because the UPS guy said so (here); (2) prayer would convert her loss to a win (here); (3) she believes she’s Arizona’s governor despite losing the election (here); and (4) her defeat was the result of a CIA plot (here).
Kari Lake is crazy (see photo below for further confirmation, if any is needed).
Well, here’s a dash of reality: Pay up, Kari.
