Town loses fight to evict the Flintstones

The Flintstones are there to stay.

A woman who bought a Flintstones-themed house in a San Francisco suburb several years ago carried things further by adding a plethora of lawn ornaments and sculptures to complete the effect.

Some of the neighbors didn’t like the tourist traffic it brought to the neighborhood. They complained. The city sued her, because she didn’t get permits, and ignored “stop work” orders.

“The parties have reached an amicable resolution of the case to the satisfaction of all the parties, such that the improvements made to the Flintstone House will be permitted to remain,” court papers said. The “improvements” stay. And the town has to pay her legal expenses — all $125,000 of them.

That’s a loss: Homeowner 1, Town 0. The tourists are cheering, the neighbors are weeping.

I posted a picture so you don’t have to fly to California to see it.
