The question asked by some liberals is : What purpose did hanging these two convicts serve?
Is capital punishment worse than life long imprisonment? Should life long imprisonment be made more unpleasant .. perhaps by putting the perps in cages where they can be ridiculed by the public? Or maybe we could replace life sentences by some form of maiming that would assure the perp never is a danger again?
Is the issue cruelty to the perp, revenge for the society or an effective deterrent?
I do not know the answers but I am also not arrogant enough to not ask the questions. Our system, not just for capital crimes, now imprisons far more ..per capita ..than any other system in the world. Is there anyone who thinks our system is just? Can a system that does not work be called just?
Maybe if we drop napalm on ISIS positions, people will be less eager to fight for that organization.
“If it were not for the Bible we would not know right from wrong.” Abraham Lincoln.
The Bible calls for capital punishment for different crimes. If we don’t all accept the Bible or some other objective standard for morality our opinions are just opinions–nothing else.I was told it costs $78,000 per year to keep a prisoner in our “reformatories.” For that we could send them to Harvard instead!
That raises carbon emissions
The bible? You are kidding right? That sort of fundamentalism IS what ISIS is all about.
I think we should reconsider capital punishment on more realistic basis. Is life imprisonment really a punishment?
