Chinese Builds Airstrip Hundred of Miles From Its Borders to Claim South China Sea
China has made rapid progress in building an military airstrip in contested territory in the South China Sea’s Spratly Islands. The work on the runway has reclaimed parts of Fiery Cross Reef in the Spratly archipelago. China claims these islands locates off shore of Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Brunei, even though the reefs are hundreds of miles from its own borders.
