Some months ago THE-Ave.us and other websites bemoaned the Disney-esque and undistinguished design proposed for Seattle’s waterfront.. We felt the New York based architect had done a great job of designing a waterfront for Kansas City.
Someone must have heard!!!!
Today’s Seattle Times reports a GREAT opportunity for collaboration between the coastal peoples and the waterfront design team to create a theme reflecting our amazing roots.
Imagine the possibilities:
A meeting place built as a long house with traditional house poles and sides carved using traditional design to show Seattle history
We could cast pacing stones based on the same designs
Wonderful rain shelters could be beneath dugout canoes
We could have contests to commission NEW totem poles… commemorating our shared history!
How about a monumental whale fin by Marvin Oliver?
AND FINALLY MOVE THE STATUE OF CHIEF SEATTLE TO A PLACE IF HONOR!
