I changed two heads on the number one generator, then all 7 injectors, that
kept me busy for three days, other than that no real news here.
Frank Kirby e-mailed me from the pacific Ocean to say that you had left him
a message, but that he had forgot to call you, he wrote to tell me to write
and tell you, that he is sorry he didn’t call.
I subscribe to the Crosscut blog on my Kindle but their articles are short,
there was one with the odd bit of news that Goldy has been fired from the
Stranger! Is this true? If so what happened? Did he finally go insane? Or
did his lack of vices catch up to him?
David:
I don’t think Goldy was fired. My impression is that when he joined the Stranger, Goldy had the intent of using it as a platform to become a political commentator comparable to Joel Connelly. I do not think the Stranger let him do that. Despite Eli Sanders’ Pulitzer prize, the Stranger’s need to emphasize sexual obsession as a style, makes it difficult for any writer to develop the kind of persona Goldy deserves. Personally, as a fan of his writing, I felt that his writing deteriorated while he was at the Stranger.
I also suspect that there was a personality conflict between Goldy and Dominic. Dominic is younger, lacks the sophistication of education that Goldy has, gay, and was Goldy’s boss. From what Goldy says, Dominic made assignments that Goldy did not like and there were conflicts over Dominic’s rewrite of articles that were to appear below a David Goldstein byline.
Goldy says that he quit .
