Is There a “Mr.” (or Ms.) Target?
Target’s reputation dropped by 35 points to -9 after Target announced that hackers may have gotten access to 40 million customers’ credit and debit card information. Traget’s effort ot fix this has been pallid. They apologized and offered a 10% discount for a limited period.
Of course, in our corporate culture, no one will ever be responsible for this. If Target were actually owned by my father in law Sol, an owner of a children’s clothing store before his retirement, Sol would have been mortified and likely go bankrupt.
Target’s executives, protected by the illusion of responsibility implicit oin corporate ownership, likely will not suffer the fate of a small store owner.
