First of all, J. D. Vance is a proven liar. He was a front-and-center promoter of the “Haitians eat pets” conspiracy theory; and when he was force to admit it was false, he nevertheless tried to justify demonizing an entire group of innocent people as a way to score a political point.
Vance also is a shameless opportunist seeking power for its own sake. In the past, he sharply criticized Trump; but then, seeing an opportunity to grasp the brass ring, he reversed himself and became a Trump sycophant to advance his own political career.
No one can trust Vance about anything; and with that established, let’s turn to his defense of Trump’s frightening remarks about unleashing the military on dissenting Americans, which typically is the stuff of communist and fascist dictatorships.
To begin with, Vance is a slick salesman and smooth talker. Remember that, because he’s trying to sell voters a bill of goods. In the video below, he attempts to rewrite Trump’s own words to make him seem less threatening (read more in the story here).
But Trump was plain enough (see story here) when he called China’s Xi “a brilliant guy” because he “controls 1.4 billion people with an iron fist,” and thought it was “great” that Xi made himself “president for life” and added, “Maybe we’ll have to give that a shot someday.” That’s fascist talk.
Vance is trying to whitewash it by putting words in Trump’s mouth he didn’t say, and dodging the words Trump did say. That’s dishonest. But by now, we all understand that Vance is a very dishonest guy.
The best case anyone can make for Trump is he doesn’t mean what he says. That’s what Vance, the slickster, wants us to believe. Don’t bet the farm on it. And when you vote, remember it’s easier to keep the camel out of the tent than get the camel out of the tent after it gets in.
