City worker slashed by razor blades on Trump-Pence sign

Someone’s in big trouble.

A building inspector who was doing his job — removing yard signs placed in city right-of-way too close to the road — had his fingers slashed by razor blades when he reached to pull up a Trump-Pence sign. Read story here.

The homeowner presumably didn’t want his signs stolen. But boobytraps are illegal, even on private property, although in this case the sign was on city property. It’s also a stupid thing to do, because what if a child comes along? My guess is he’s going to face assault and reckless endangerment charges — and a personal injury lawsuit.

  1. What kind of person booby traps his sign then posts the sign on city property? #

    1. Who would post their political signs on city property?

    2. Who would post their sign on city property and place razor blades on the sign to discourage sign removal?

    3. Who would post a trump sign and have the sign sabotaged with razor blades?

A right wing fanatic more concerned with political belief than concern for the safety of others. You know the mask less wonder types selfishly concerned for their freedom to spread Covid-19 than for the safety of their fellow Americans.

If it is illegal, a trumpster is on it, just like the fly on Pence’s hair, stuck on the bad.

This is typical political season silliness. There are first amendment issues here. Why is the county sending anyone out this close to an election to remove any political signs? Was the worker removing all political signs. Odd the county is claiming a 33 feet right away from the center of the road where the usual right of way from the center is 24 feet with 1 feet on both sides. That is a very wide county road.
What is the ordinance and I do mean the whole ordinance.
Why did the county worker not have work gloves on? He or she could have gotten a paper cut from the sign. The story states the signs were on a homeowners property therefore private property, so the city employee may have trespassed when removing them.
It is unknown who booby trapped the signs. I suppose the county could go after the home owner and save their attorney from paying fees to start the law suit, but the county is going to find it tough to prove that. Also is there an ordinance or state law on the booby trapping of signs, and to what degree does common sense prevail. The whole children thing is a bit of a tempest in a tea pot, since it is possible kids set the booby trap and in general most kids leave political signs alone, and have no interest in them unless the owner of the property the signs are on is a d***.
I think most of you are missing one point and that we should concern with free speech or in this case political speech. It is protected speech even if it is from who we disagree with .

This has nothing to do with free speech. The city has an ordinance prohibiting signage within 33 feet of the centerline of the road and the sign was 24 feet or 9 feet too close. The sign was removed because it was a road hazard, not because of its political content. The homeowner admitted taping the razor blades to the sign. Boobytraps are illegal. The employee had no legal duty to wear gloves in case someone set an illegal boobytrap. The homeowner did have a legal duty not to endanger others. Jail time is appropriate in this case because someone was injured by his reckless and unlawful actions.
