The picture emerging of the man accused of attacking the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Colorado Springs yesterday is of an eccentric loner who lived in poverty, kept vicious dogs, avoided eye contact with people he met and rarely interacted with neighbors, believed in conspiracy theories, had numerous minor brushes with the law (and may have felt hounded by police), and was considered “weird” and “unpredictable” by those who knew him.
His ex-wife says he is the son of a Citadel graduate and World War 2 Navy veteran, a Baptist who is religious but doesn’t attend church, politically conservative, and “believed that abortion was wrong.” He had a degree in public administration and made his living by selling art prints.
A native of South Carolina, he disappeared from North Carolina about a year ago and has been living in a cheap trailer on remote property he purchased in Colorado since then. He left behind a crude crucifix made from twigs tacked up on his North Carolina shack.
He took multiple weapons and propane tanks to the Planned Parenthood facility, which has been described as a “fortress” with bulletproof windows and “safe rooms”. When taken into custody, he told the cops, “No more baby parts.” Read story here.
