That situation did not work out so well. The Jewish Kingdom never got much of a a foothold first bring conquered by Alexander about 2300 years ago and then by the Romans after a few years’ rule by a terribly corrupt priesthood beginning with the Maccabees about 2170 years ago. The Maccabees themselves rules for less than seven years. Ironically, the Pharisees .. the ancestors of modern Judaism and Christianity .. began as an effort to overthrow these corrupt priests but by 70 BCE, the Romans had taken full control.
The Truth About Jerusalem .. Neither Promised by God Nor Eternal
Sorry bubbelahs .. Jerusalem is never mentioned in Judaism’s only book of revelation .. the Torah. Christians may think there is God’s word in Isaiah or Jesus but that is not part of Judaism. The ideas that is has always been the capital of the Jew ss also false.
As for history, Jerusalem MAY (historians disagree) have been conquered by someone (David?) about 3000 years ago. However, before David, the city was Jebusite .. at least if we believe the Tanach. . Whatever happened, historians all agree that the grandiose kingdom described under Solomon is mythical. Again, if we refer to the Tanach, after the death of Solomon , the northern tribes, including those of Samaria, separated from the southern tribes and established the separate Kingdom of Israel. The capital of Israel was first Tirzah then Shomron . Shomron fell t the Assyrians about 2700 years ago. Jerusalem too, also according to the Tanach. This time it fell this time to the Babylonians. This happened about 2600 years ago, more or less 400 years after David. After that there were a number of capitals of Judea other than Jerusalem until Cyrus (not God) designated Jerusalem about 2500 years ago as capital of a vassal state under Persian rule.
