J. D. Vance, Trump’s 2024 running mate, is well know for his disdain for “childless cat ladies.” He believes the solution to America’s shrinking workforce is more babies. So it’s not surprising that he believes woman’s place is in the home raising children.
It’s not totally clear whether this is his personal philosophy, or something he believes should be government policy; but Republicans want to prohibit abortion and contraception, which critics call “forced parenthood.”
Bowing to the realty that most families need two incomes to make ends meet, Vance has a child care plan. It works like this: “Maybe grandma or grandpa wants to help out a little bit more. Or maybe there’s an aunt or uncle that wants to help out a little bit more.” (Read story here.)
That’s right, alleviate the high cost of daycare and America’s shortage of daycare workers by hitting up relatives in their Golden Years to provide free child care. You know, take one for the team.
