GOP is losing business support

The GOP, once the party of business, has morphed like a mutating virus into a petrie dish teeming with conspiracy nuts, racists and bigots, anti-maskers, and violent insurrectionists.

In Georgia, where GOP legislators are ramrodding a huge voter suppression bill, the Chamber of Commerce is distancing itself and major corporations have quit making donations. Read story here.

“So what is the Republican Party without big business? Well, its elected officials — and their re-election campaigns — are about to start finding out.”

They aren’t making donations because, “It has become increasingly evident [to those corporate leaders], even to those looking only at their companies’ bottom lines, that the Republican Party is becoming a threat to the democratic society that has served us so well.” Not to mention shaky or downright poor governance when they’re in power.

What is the GOP without big business? A penniless gaggle of racists, bigots, conspiracy nuts, and gun-toting insurrectionists.

It could be the Democratic party is so much in corporations pockets that these Corporations don’t need the Republicans. They can get what they really want through the Democrats. There is an argument that large corporations should not be even allowed to make donations to any political party. They do have legitimate interests and must have a voice to our elected officials, but they have a large voice. [This comment has been edited.]

Corporations have always lobbied both parties, but favored the GOP until it became a party of racists and bigots, anti-maskers, and violent insurrectionists. Now Georgia’s biggest companies are sending a message to Republicans they want nothing to do voter suppression, and are being ignored, so it looks like that business support will be going away.
