HARASSMENT: Let me know if you wish to suggest that Coke also send me harrassing emails!
In the whole issue of my brother Hugh Schwartz’s determination to destroy the WWII materials, my brother in law William Quick has been especially toxic. 1. Dr. Quick has gone as far as harassing my employer, the University of Washington, with charges that this site, THE-Ave.US has pedophilia and racism. He wanted the UW to force me to take this site down and have me laid off because I am, according to him, mentally incapacitated. 2. Aided by Janet Linn, a corporate attorney, William even went so far as to use a Public Rec0rds Request to obtain my emails … sadly including professional matters relating to students and patients. So much for legal ethics! 3. He and Janet then threatened the university with legal action when the UW disclosed his actions to me. 4. Lately, Bill has taken to sending obnoxious emails, protected by this sort of “Copyright” claim. Apparently attorney Janet Linn is unaware that under American law, the “fair use doctrine,” protects my recipient’s rights to use any email I receive as part of a fair comment.

EMAIL from Quick:
Confidential — Not for reproduction by me or thee.
Barbara, Steve:
As everyone is very much aware, both of you are refusing to acknowledge the issue I raised at the beginning of this e-mail string:
Steve has deliberately and maliciously associated his sibs’ spouses (Janet and me) with the word “hypocrisy” and has repeatedly declined to accede to my request to remove our names from that post.
Fair use includes THE Ave’s use of tags and hyperlinks to allow readers to follow discussions and read related items. Readers may want to use the tags to read about materials related to you or Janet.
In your own case these links include your website where you claimed that my father had falsified his claim to take the pictures at Buchenwald.
Returning to last night’s EMAIL from Quick:
Bill, my two children have repeatedly asked you to stop sending them harassing emails.
To make your behavior worse, let me remind readers that Hugh went so far as to file false charges in court that I and my daughter had stolen things from my father’s house. These charges cost the estate .. including your wife as an heir … hundreds of thousands of dollars.
All the recent malarky about your (non-existent) right to reproduce the text of this e-mail is blather at best and totally irrelevant in any case.
Once again, I will ask Barbara to persuade Steve, or Steve to act on his own, and for Steve to make the very small but very symbolic positive gesture of removing Janet and my names from this posting. If our names remain on this post despite this final request, it will again prove for once and for all to see, that Stephen’s overwhelming hatred of his sibs clouds his better judgement and that he is only an angry and bitter old man who is in the running to be the world’s greatest hypocrite.
Please remove the two tags.
Thank you.
Bill

Stephen:
You have not removed the offending tags despite my repeated requests, and instead you have escalated the situation way beyond any reasonable expectation by posting my e-mail on the Internet. Please take down the posting at http://handbill.us/?p=67177 immediately.
Also, despite your claim “Bill, my two children have repeatedly asked you to stop sending them harassing emails.” I have no such request from either of them.
You have shown yourself to simply be an angry and bitter old man, with overwhelming hatred of your sibs and their spouses which clouds your judgement. Your regrettable decision to publish copyrighted materials without obtaining prior permission is another manifestation of your narcissistic personality and grandiosity.
This email is copyright by the sender, and remains the property of the author. It may not be reproduced in whole or in part without the express written permission of the author except to respond to the sender and to those copied on the correspondence.
As I have told you many times, your emails to me are subject to fair use.
I have, therefore responded to your recent email directly in THE-Ave.,US.
I will only respond to future emails on this topic by posting them at THE-Ave as comments. By sending me such emails you assent to that publication in full.
I also request that you cease sending Havivah and Hillel harassing emails.
I gotta say dragging Coca Cola’s trademark into what started out as a nasty family fight over Holocaust photographs is ingenious. I would argue this is all political speech about a historical event that’s protected by the First Amendment and both of you are (very) public figures, which means the normal copyright and libel rules don’t apply. Have at it, gentlemen!
Bill Quick emailed me:
Proud of yourself, aren’t you?
My response:
No. I just want the Buchenwald issue ended while survivors can see the pictures.
