GOPers can’t relate to working-class renters

Raw Story says the GOP “pushed out a video” mocking Rep.-Elect Maxwell Frost’s struggles to get a Washington, D.C. apartment. Sorry, I looked for it, but couldn’t find it so it’s not posted here, and I haven’t been able to watch it.

Frost said he may “couch surf” for a while because he doesn’t have upfront money for deposit and rent, a situation many young people just starting a new job can readily relate to.

But that’s apparently something those Republicans never experienced. The video harped on Frost’s congressional salary of $174,000, but it flew over their heads that he isn’t being paid yet. The obvious implication of all this is they’ve never depended on a paycheck to pay bills.

Raw Story says (here) it points out “how far removed the GOP is from the plight of everyday Americans dealing with housing in a world where the rent is always too high.”

That was being kind. One commenter caustically noted, “Party of rich old folks mocks him for not having six residences.” Another said of the Republicans, “It’s remarkable how confidently you punch yourself in your own genitals over and over and think it makes you look clever.”

How many reminders do we need that the GOP is the party of the rich, and is utterly clueless about how America’s working class lives? We just got another one.
