Israel’s defence minister and ally of Benjamin Netanyahu has resigned over the cabinet’s decision to accept a ceasefire ending two days of fighting with Palestinian militants in Gaza. The Israeli has built his career on Trumpism, the idea of a greater Israel.
He denounced the government’s willingess to call ana armistice in Gaza as “surrendering to terror”.
Lieberman said his right-wing Yisrael Beiteinu party would leave the ruling coalition, which could lead to an early election.
To put a Trump spin on this is dishonest, and skips over the fact the man has been in Israeli politics long before Trump started his election bid, that Palestinian militants in Gaza, and elsewhere is an issue there are many opinions on in Israel, and maybe Lieberman might want to be Prime Minister.
Also looking at a map one might conclude being at least cordial with the President of Russia when you are the Israeli defense minister might be tactically and strategically wise. No reason the Israeli’s should not buy weapon system or two from the Russians.
Lieberman goes far back with Putin and the affinity is deeper than just Israeli geopolitical.
Trumpism is a bit new to Trump just as Stalinism was not new to Pol Pot.
