NYTimes does an expose of the Brookings Institution, showing how corporate donations result in brand-building favors. Disturbing (and long) article. Seattle has connections with some of the programs mentioned in the story, with mentions of Boeing, Microsoft, Vulcan, and Hitachi. The Metropolitan Policy Program and the Global Cities Initiative (with JPMorgan Chase) features prominently in programs and philosophy of the
Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce. Worth exploring and clarifying by our local media. Brookings is a forceful advocate and research source for greater urban development and density as well as thinking regionally and globally. Good goals. The article makes clear some of the corporate interests aligned with these pushes and makes me wonder for the first time about Brookings’ reputation for nonpartisan objectivity.
