Buchenwald 133: As the Survivors fade, remembering the children

A tale of two Buchenwald boys. Israel Granatstein born 1930 from Piotrkow was in the Hortensja glass factory, then in Czestochowa, Brought to Buchenwald in January 1945, he was soon in Kinderblock 66. He talks about Gustav, the deputy blockelder, in his testimony. Granatstein was among those led out the afternoon before liberation at Buchenwald, and only liberated later at Terezin. He came to British mandate Palestine and joined the Palmach. Shmuel Koral, born 1930, from Krakow, was in the Plaszow camp and then in Auschwitz Birkenau, slaving in Canada. He then was in Buchenwald, also in Kinderblock 66. He also talks of Gustav, and after liberation at Buchenwald was with the boys sent to Switzerland. He came to British mandate Palestine and soon joined the Palmach. Granatstein and Koral flash the same picture – in their separate testimonies.
