I am also signing because I have been intimated as well by Orthodox males. While taking an El Al flight to Israel from JFK airport a group of Chasidic males started to surround me as I was wearing a kippah. As a woman this was not acceptable for me to do so. My rabbi asked me to remove the religious apparel so that there would be peace. Once on the plane I put it back on, and was asked by the stewardess to take it off. I was unwilling and she left me alone the rest of the flight. I closed my eyes and they glared at my blank face.
It is not up to the Orthodox to structure my apparel, when or where to wear a religious object.
