First U.S. combat death against ISIS, as Delta Force rescues 70 hostages

Thirty U.S. “Delta Force” troops mounted a helicopter assault against an ISIS prison in northern Iraq where 70 captives were about to be executed, after an attempted raid by Kurdish forces was overwhelmed. One U.S. Army Special Forces soldier was killed in the operation, while about 20 ISIS fighters were killed and 6 captured, according to the Pentagon. The rescued hostages included 20 Iraqi Security Forces troops, local residents, and several ISIS fighters accused of spying. This was the first American combat death against ISIS.
