Anthony, blaming Euros for responding to the hoodie is unfair. The way ANYONE chooses to dress is a form of speech. The hoodie is no different from the Pope’s costume, an Al Quaeda face mask with Arabic, a French maid costume, a nun’s habit, or the black coats of a radical Jew. The response to Anthony in a hoodie is as much a response to the celebration of the gangster culture in the African American community as my response to the way little girls are dresses in “beauty contests” is a response to middle America’s sexualization of children.
