14 women have tried Marines’ Infantry Officer Course. All of them have failed.
The sad part of this is the bizarre, liberal, feminist idea idea that men and women are identical rather than equal.
This is the equivalent of demanding that Hooters, the Bunny Ranch or the Bolshoi ballerinas accept male employees who can meet the physical standards of female biology.
The problem is not really one of opportunities for the rare woman who might be able to qualify as a marine or a seal. Such females are so rare that the issue is probably way overborne by the money spent in accommodating them. That money would be better spent on finding ways to take advantage of female properties in our military.
The real problem is that our society so celebrates male values that it demeans the female values. A colleague at the UW has written a fascinating book arguing that Helen of Troy should be seen as great a female hero as the macho Achilles. Professor Blondell’s point is obviously not that Homer is a modern writer who understand this form of equality but that we moderns should learn to see powerful women through a female point of view.
