APPLESAUCE: Why would anyone want an “Airboook>”

Recently, my Assistant asked if we could get him a new PC perhaps an Airbook.  He was concerned because the notebooks he ha sbeen usingare now a few years old and getting slow.

This was my response:

Well, I am not sure we need anything new.  Computers od nto wear out.  If they are gettinf slow, the porblme is the software. I would be very surprised if the machines we have now are too old for Win 7 or Win 8. Before buying another machine, I would just get all your data off and then reinstall Win 7 or Win 8.

As for the airbook it  is just Apple’s version of the generic Intel Ultrabook. The competition offers better, more functional and cheaper ultrabooks ,,http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Apple-MacBook-Alternatives-Ultrabook-Zenbook,review-1777.html.  Even less expensive, if less pretty, are “netbooks”  Even the older units, at $800 are overpriced. Comparable PCs  sell for $300 to $700, have real hard disks, etc.

Moreover, Airbook lacks two features most non Mac latops  will soon have, The first is a  touch screen.  In Apple’s odd cult, touch screens ONLY belong on iPADS!  Well, my new Microsoft Surface (at $700) has all the function of an Airbook AND integrates touch screen that is awesome. To do this, the Surface simply has a detachable keyboard .. making the screen into a tablet.

While my surface is pretty much like an ultrabook .. that is it lacks a  hard disk, several manufacturers already cell more fully functional notebooks with touch screens, and Microsoft’s Surface will be upgraded to run full windows in January.

Or we could wait for the rumored Apple Goldinger!
