Another Shanda: Can Jews be Racist?
Shanda: behavior bringing shame on the entire Jewish community. I have used this term to refer to my own brother and sister for their shameful effort to allow our father’s pictures from Buchenwald to die in a lawyer’s safe.
Wiki and other Sources: Donald Stirling, born Donald Tokowitz , has brought huge shame on himself and on the entire Jewish community.
Stirling was born in 1933 to Susan and Mickey, Jewish immigrants who fled the horrors of Europe.[3] The family moved to LA where Donald graduated from California State University, Los Angeles (Class of 1956) and Southwestern University School of Law (Class of 1960) .[4]Having no chance at working for a prestigious law firm, Donald built an independent practice and claimed that he tried 10,000 cases. In 1957, Sterling married Rochelle Stein, with whom he has three children,

Now this Jewish lawyer has become a real life shyster (see right). Although still married to Rochelle, Stirling lives with a strikingly beautiful half-African-American and half-Mexican lady. Sylvester Stirling’s strong sense of race, his bigotry and sexism is all to evident on the tape that somehow has leaked to the media. . Whether Sterling is sadly mixing up his words or only referring to Magic Johnson personally, or jealous of the brief attention his much younger girlfriend received isn’t the point.
The Shanda. Listening to this tape was horrible. The worst of it was that Mr. Stirling is passing as a white.
For people who have fought so hard to earn respect of their fellow citizens, Jews who pass take up the horrible racial cross associated with being “white.” Whatever else the term may mean, too many Americans take that term as is either prideful or shameful. To those who wish to call themselves “people of color” the term denotes privilege based on race. To those who want that privilege, the term denotes a form of racism very much like that adopted both by the Nazis and by the citizens of the Confederacy.
As a biologist, the term “white” comes close to being absurd. Modern genetics say that most Jews, with the exception of modern converts , can trace our ancestry back about 20,000 years to the Semites of North Arabia . We share that route with our brothers and sisters, the Arabs. For those, like myself, who claim Sephardic origin, our ancestors migrated from Israel to Spain before the beginnings of the Roman Empire. Coming to Spain, those far-off Semitic ancestors settled amongst people whose ancestors came from the northern Caucuses .people who undoubtedly were lighter skinned and, at that time, far less sophisticated than my own ancestors. Those same Caucasians might now called “white ” if such a tribal or racial term still had meaning. Modern genetics also shows that the Jews who became the Ashkenazim, the Jews killed in the millions by the Nazis, were descendants of Sephardim who fled north to escape the anti-Semitism infecting Spain.
The Nazis and their modern descendants amongst anti-Semites around the world , created a contradictory myth. In Germany of the Nazi era, we were a race distinct from white people . In the anti-Semitic mantra of the Arab world , modern Jews are “white.”
So now we have Mr. Stirling, a Jew who not only considers himself to be a white man but sees that as somehow better than being black or brown . Mr. Sterling, despite wanting to make money , apparently doesn’t like to see black and brown people coming to watch his black basketball players . I guess Mr. Stirling makes these racial decisions based on appearance .
Passing for white is very much a part of the Jewish story in America. The Jews of the South enthusiastically supported the Confederacy. During WWII, the American Jewish Committee convinced FDR to lay low on the issue of atrocities fearing that it might incite anti-Semitism among white Americans.
The Slaves Revolt?
I can imagine Mr. Stirling among the Jews who tried to tell the Nazis, “I am not Jewish, I am white!” I wonder if he would reject me as a fan if he knew that my last name was really Negri ?
