Senate Republicans “unexpectedly rejected efforts to advance a bipartisan bill that would direct the Veterans Affairs Department to carry out studies and clinical trials on the use of cannabis to treat veterans’ chronic pain and PTSD,” CNN reported on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 (read story here).
The bill received unanimous support in committee, but then there was a “spirited debate” among Republican senators just before the vote, and it apparently failed to pass because some GOP senators were afraid it might help Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester, chair of the Veterans Affairs Committee, get reelected in 2024.
So screw the suffering veterans, politics is more important, huh?
