Maryland’s governor has rejected a GOP state central committee nominee for the state elections board as unfit.
William Newton (photo, left) stole his infirm mother’s house and gave it to his girlfriend. He was convicted of embezzlement and sentenced to probation.
Newton also is a failed candidate (for state house, senate, and Congress) and election denier. But he has Maryland Republican Party connections, and that got him nominated for the state elections board.
The governor refused to appoint him and acidly wrote to the party chair, “First, I do not believe that someone who denies the legitimacy of Maryland’s elections should be able to make decisions regarding their administration. Second, Mr. Newton does not meet our internal vetting standards due to his previous conviction for a crime of moral turpitude.”
How did a nominee like this slip through the cracks? He didn’t; nominating him was knowing and willful. This isn’t your grandfather’s Republican Party anymore. In fact, it isn’t the GOP at all. Real Republicans should sue those clowns for trademark infringement.
