GOP governor wants kids indoctrinated, not educated

Businessman Glenn Youngkin got elected governor of Virginia by pretending to be a moderate Republican, which he’s not.

He was helped by a clumsy Democratic opponent who said, “I don’t think parents should be telling schools what they should teach.” Gong! (The Democrat happens to be right, if you’re talking about parents like this, but you can’t say it quite that way to voters.)

So, Youngkin got in, and now he’s revamping K-12 education in Virginia. His appointees on the state school board came up with a new history curriculum focused on teaching patriotism and leaving out major pieces of American history. Critics slammed it as “whitewashing,” and some even called it “racist.” (Read stories here and here.)

Professional educators, not parents and certainly not politicians, should decide what children are taught.

How hard is that?
