Trust and Safety gone from Twitter

I’m sure that’s not how Musk wants the world to read it, but that’s how it literally reads.

“Elon Musk’s Twitter has dissolved its Trust and Safety Council,” The Hill reported on Monday, December 12, 2022 (read story here).

An email announcing the move said the council isn’t “the best structure” and Musk’s plaything is “reevaluating how best to bring external insights.” (A real CEO and him becoming a passive investor would be a good start.)

It seems pretty clear Musk has no friggin’ idea how to keep hate speech off the platform. As The Hill says, “Shortly after buying Twitter for $44 billion in late October, Musk said he would form a new ‘content moderation council’ to help make major decisions but later changed his mind.” Even if what Twitter had wasn’t perfect, it was better than nothing, and now there’s nothing.

It didn’t help that Musk attacked some of the council’s former members, after they resigned in disgust, because the World’s Richest Man™ can’t stomach criticism.

Here’s a suggestion: Avoid. Him, his soapbox, his inane rants about “free speech,” and his rightwing ideology. Don’t contribute to Twitter becoming another Fox News, which now appears to be what he bought it for.
