The 48 Venezuelan asylum seekers flown from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — who used federal Covid-19 relief money to pay for the expensive flights — were recruited by a bilingual woman who called herself “Perla.”
She’s called “Defendant Doe #1” in a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of several of the transported migrants.
Her real name is Perla Huerta, 43, of Tampa, Florida. She has family in San Antonio, where the migrant flight originated, and had just left the Army after a 20-year military career. Read story here and here.
