GOPers keep punting on Trump’s bad behavior

Trump is a one-dimensional cartoon villain, and we’re all familiar with his M.O.: He verbally trashes anyone who disagrees with him. Above all, he hates being criticized. And his vicious rants have heft, because his zombie followers take everything he says as divine words from on high.

Lately, Trump’s been going after Senate GOP leader McConnell. It doesn’t really matter why, but the trigger for his latest outburst may have been McConnell’s support for an interim government funding bill that passed easily last week by a 72-25 vote. Trump apparently wanted a government shutdown.

Anyway, for whatever reason, Trump lit into McConnell on Friday; read for yourself what he said here:

(See story here; note the dummy can’t spell “advice.”) Keep in mind that while president, Trump thought enough of Elaine Chao to make her his transportation secretary; and by the way, she’s Taiwanese.

Now enters Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL), our GOP Coward Of The Day. He started things off by saying “it’s never ever OK to be a racist.” Which, of course, is exactly what Trump’s entirely gratuitous remark about McConnell’s wife is.

But he immediately began backpedaling, so as not to offend the GOP’s writhing masses upon whom he depends for reelection every six years (he’s next up in 2024). He promptly added, “I hope no one is racist. I hope no one says anything that’s inappropriate.” Er, what? Does anyone but him think Trump’s remark wasn’t racist and inappropriate?

Scott’s answer to that goes like this: “I can never talk about and respond to why anybody else says what they said.” And then he said, “As you know, the president likes to give people nicknames. You can ask him how he came up with the nickname.”

That’s right, according to a Republican sitting member of the U.S. Senate, “China loving wife, Coco Chow!” is a nickname. Scott didn’t call it an “endearing nickname,” but you shouldn’t be real surprised if that amendment comes next week.

Is it fair to single out Scott? After all, he’s only one GOP politician, albeit a highly visible one. I don’t think so, and I say that because no other GOP politician has stepped up to criticize Trump’s racist remark, either.

The Republican Party has nothing left. No principle, no backbone, no morals. They even run away from the things they say insincerely. There’s nothing to see here except abject cowardice.
