No, Trump couldn’t sue Congress for impeaching him

Most Americans first heard of Ukraine leader Volodymyr Zelensky when Trump tried to blackmail him for dirt on Biden.

Based on what we now know about Russia and Trump, and Putin’s designs on Ukraine, that may have been just an excuse to block the military aid Congress wanted to send to Ukraine.

In any case, the Democrats impeached him for it, but Republicans failed to take advantage of that opportunity to rid themselves of him.

In retrospect, for their own good, they should have.

Now we learn from a forthcoming book by New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman that Trump wanted to sue Congress for impeaching him (see story here). “I’ll just sue Congress. They can’t do this to me,” he said, according to her book.

Sure they can. I mean, they did, didn’t they?

The question is, could he have sued them? (Looks left, looks right.) Don’t think so. What would the legal theory be? Tort? Contract? Divine right of kings?
