Capitol rioter gets 4 years for beating cop with flagpole

Howard Richardson, 72, of Pennsylvania was sentenced to 46 months in federal prison for repeatedly striking a Metro police officer with a flagpole until it broke during the Capitol riot (read story here).

Richardson is a Vietnam veteran and his son his a police officer. On that basis, apparently, he told the judge, “I’m a good citizen.”

Not anymore. He’s now a convicted felon who’s going to do prison time.

As the judge explained to him, “Violence is an unacceptable way of resolving political differences. Your presence and actions in joining other insurrectionists was an inexcusable attack on our democracy. You should appreciate what an extraordinary country you live in.”

I don’t think that’s possible. For him to appreciate our country, that is. The best way to describe people like him is short-sighted.

Too shortsighted to see through Trump’s lies, to understand that America is about more than always getting your way, or even realize that beating a cop with a stick because you don’t like an election outcome isn’t patriotic, because this moron still describes himself as a “patriot.”

There’s another term commonly used to describe people like him: “Violent criminal.”
