It wasn’t a poisoned cheeseburger, or getting shot; what he really, really feared was “a pie being thrown in his face.”
So claimed Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal lawyer and fixer, while testifying in a lawsuit against Trump involving security guards beating up protesters (watch video of the incident here).
Daily Beast reports (here) that under questioning, “Cohen explained how his former boss at one point became obsessed over the way computer biz billionaire Bill Gates once got attacked with a pie to the face.” (This is strange, because Trump wasn’t a big Gates fan even before the latter’s messy.)
“For some reason that upset Mr. Trump terribly,” Cohen related. “We were all instructed that if somebody was to ever throw anything at him, that if that person didn’t end up in the hospital, we’d all be fired.”
The story continues,
“When contacted by The Daily Beast …, Cohen clarified that Trump at times seemed obsessed with pies. ‘It wasn’t just one time. It was an ongoing and regular thing. As he would go out to various different open venues, he would always remind Keith [Schiller] to keep his eyes open,’ Cohen told The Daily Beast. ‘He never would turn around and say, ‘If anyone throws a rock or a bottle…’ It’s always a pie. He always brought up that pie thing.”
(Keith Schiller was Trump Tower’s security chief.)
So it appears that on the relative scale of things, Trump would rather get poisoned or shot than humiliated, which is consistent with everything we know about him.
