The GOP’s true colors

The Republican National Committee convened 168 members on Friday, February 4, 2022, to tell the world where the GOP stands on certain issues. For example, they condemned the Chinese government (but House Republicans just voted against a China competition bill, see that story here).

But the main business of the meeting was resolutions on the Capitol riot. There were two of those resolutions, and both “overwhelmingly” passed by voice votes.

The first one describes the Capitol rioters as “ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” The second condemned the participation of the two GOP members of the House committee investigating the riot, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, as “destructive to the institution of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Republican Party and our republic.”

Those aren’t my words, they’re their words. That isn’t my opinion, it’s their stance. The RNC is the governing body of the GOP and speaks for the party, and this is what the Republican Party is today, in the here and now.

For sample videos of what the RNC calls “legitimate political discourse,” go here and here. Either the RNC delegates are ignorant of what happened on Jan. 6 (unlikely), or they’re very twisted people.

Responsible citizens can’t vote for this. Or for them. You may disagree with Democrats on every issue. You may believe in small government, low taxes, minimal regulation, and all the other elements of traditional Republicanism.

But this is not that Republican party anymore. If you vote for the GOP today, you’re voting for violent anarchy, and against democracy and “power to the people.” This simple fact transcends all disagreements over ideologies and policies. It’s about the utter collapse of American values within the GOP and their wholehearted embrace of lies, political violence, and dictatorship.
