Utah’s richest person quits Mormon church and donates to LGBQT group

Jeff Green, a Microsoft alumnus and billionaire data entrepreneur (photo; not to be confused with flashy Florida billionaire Jeff Greene, they’re different people), has quit the Mormon church, which he accuses in a scathing resignation letter of “doing harm in the world.”

Green has long been estranged from the church, and his resignation is a formality he’s using explain his views.

He thinks most Mormon followers are “good people trying to do right,” but raked the church’s leadership, which he accused of not being honest “about its history, its finances, and its advocacy,” NBC News said (see story here).

At the same time, he donated $600,000 to a Utah gay advocacy group, and expressed hope others would support the group, too.

The Mormon church opposes same-sex marriage, despite the Supreme Court ruling it a constitutional right, and also opposes a proposed bill in Congress that would extend federal anti-discrimination protections to LGBQT people.
