A leopard resident of a northeast India nature reserve must have thought it was grabbing an easy meal when it snatched a 5-year-old boy from a village near the reserve.
The jungle cat failed to reckon with the boy’s mother. She chased it over half a mile, and beat it with a stick to free her son from its claws and drive it off into the woods.
Both the mother and boy were taken to a hospital with injuries; the reserve will cover their medical expenses (presumably having a budget for such things). Read story here.
Maybe the leopard will try something easier, like an elephant or crocodile, next time.
