A Tesla Model S just became the first production car to run a quarter-mile in under 9 seconds. Driven by a professional racecar driver (a woman), the car hit 125 mph. (Read story here.) That’s faster than you’re allowed to drive on any public street or highway in America, and 2 mph faster than I got from my Chevy Impala convertible on an empty Great Plains freeway back in 1970. But I paid only $900 for that car.
