Is there a psychiatrist in the house?
Michael Flynn, convicted liar and promoter of false conspiracy theories, now claims “global elites” are fixing to unleash a new virus on humanity because “their little plan with COVID” didn’t work. (Read story here.)
Not because governments spent billions, and pharma companies ran crash programs, to develop and distribute vaccines. But because “citizen journalists” on social media thwart them.
The “digital warriors” he’s referring to are, for the most part, anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers who’ve helped prolong the pandemic and lose more lives by spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories about Covid-19.
His evidence that “global elites” are planning another attack? “I’ve seen some indications of that in some of the statements by some of these global elite type of people,” he said on the disreputable Alex Jones’ radio show.
Flynn, who was convicted of lying to the FBI about his Russia ties, and subsequently pardoned by Trump, has pushed QAnon conspiracy theories, urged Trump to declare martial law and later called for a U.S. military coup, insisted on America having only one religion (his), and recently asserted that Covid-19 vaccines are being “imposed” on people by sneaking them into salad dressing.
Some of this stuff is dangerous, not because he says it, but because crazy people believe it. All of it, except lying to the FBI, is free speech protected by the First Amendment. But the 1A doesn’t confer a clean bill of health on what’s said. I hereby pronounce Michael Flynn insane. This is an interim ruling until we can get a proper diagnosis by a psychiatrist, which should be a slam-dunk.
As for what to do with him, the best thing is to ignore him. The man’s nuts.
