Former acting FBI director Andrew McCabe (photo, left), who claimed he was the victim of a political firing ordered by a vindictive Trump only 26 hours before he was set to retire, will get his full pension after all.
In addition, the Department of Justice will pay over $200,000 of missed pension benefits, his half-million dollars of legal expenses, and expunge his firing from its records.
McCabe, a career FBI official who became acting director after Trump fired James Comey, began an obstruction of justice investigation of Trump. After he was fired, Trump boasted about his sacking, and the DoJ under Jeff Sessions (whom Trump later fired) tried to prosecute McCabe for allegedly lying about leaks to the press, but a grand jury refused to indict him.
DoJ dropped its attempts to prosecute him after a federal judge ordered them to fish or cut bait. The tortuous twists and turns of the case are detailed here.
The settlement effectively nullifies all of the actions taken against McCabe by the Trump administration.
