Whose child is this?

Can a white man own a black child stolen from Africa and shipped to Britain to be a servant? (No. Lord Mansfield ruled in 1772 that slavery was never legal in Britain; details here.)

Nevertheless, back in 1719 or thereabouts, this was common practice. So, whose child is it? Historians want to know. Meanwhile, the painting, owned for a time by the corrupt colonial administrator after whom Yale University is named because he gave it money, is now “woke.” It was a fourth-rate painting anyway, and they’re not even sure who painted it.

The real question is, when will they get around to renaming Yale University?
