Will Jon Gruden be WSU’s next football coach?

WSU may soon be looking for a football coach.

Jon Gruden, late of the Las Vegas Raiders, is looking for a job.

It almost seems a natural matchup. Gruden has college coaching experience (details here), and would also bring an NFL perspective to the job, ideal for WSU players with pro aspirations.

And Gruden (photo, above left), unlike the coach he’d be replacing (photo, below right), has already recanted for the actions that got him fired from the Raiders. “I’m sorry, I never meant to hurt anyone,” he says.

Lest you think that doesn’t count for much, recanting spared Galileo from the rack, at the hands of the departing WSU coach’s church.

Granted, Gruden comes across as a racist, homophobe, and misogynist all in one package (details here), which would be a lot for any college diversity officer to swallow. But he’s vaccinated, and that may be all that really matters in Pullman.

Rolovich

Meanwhile, there’s a job opening in Las Vegas that Nick Rolovich might consider applying for, if WSU’s vaccination requirement scuttles his present gig.

He’s eminently qualified for that role, having played as a pro (in the Arena League — as a quarterback, no less! — details here), and would bring a struggling college team perspective to a struggling NFL team. Most importantly, unlike the Raiders’ previous coach, he keeps his personal opinions to himself.

He might have to get vaccinated, though.

I think the $10 million a year price tag might be a bit high for the state. He should not touch the job at WSU for anything less.
