Back in 2018, Damon Joseph of Holland, Ohio, age 20 at the time, decided he wanted to be an ISIS terrorist.
So he grew a scraggly beard (see photo) to make himself look like one, and starting calling himself “Abdullah Ali Yusuf.” Not real stealthy. Doesn’t exactly blend in.
Starting out as a virtual jihadist, he “posted pictures online of guns, an image distributed by the media arm of the Islamic State group, and a ring that had the same words as the group’s flag,” and then began plotting to attack synagogues.
To carry out this scheme, he bought an AK-47 and an AR-15 from undercover FBI agents. (Eh? Why not just go to a gun store? Or a gun show, if you want to avoid a background check?)
This idiot will now spend 20 years in prison and then be on “supervised release,” i.e. parole, for the rest of his life.
I don’t understand this. I sort of understand a loser being mad at the world, although at age 20 there’s still plenty of time to turn things around. This isn’t how, though. This loser threw his entire life away, with nothing to show for it. I don’t get it. The only explanation I can think of is that he was starved for attention while growing up, and craved the limelight. The kind you get on the evening news.
I’m just glad they caught him before he became a bigger news story.
