… stupid happens.
There’s no doubt Gigi Haskins (photo below), the artist-creator of these yellow badges, and owner of a men’s bespoke hat shop that briefly sold them for 5 bucks apiece, is a Trumper.
As an India-based media-company blogger wrote (here), “A large number of posts on the businesses’ social media pages feature pro-GOP content. A number of her Instagram posts have also been flagged as ‘false information’. Gaskins has also put up numerous controversial billboards in Nashville” featuring rightwing content and “has posted … criticism of Black Lives Matter and anti-mask content.”
She has every right to peddle her opinions. The protesters now gathered outside her store (photo, left) have a right to express theirs, too. They can call her a bigot and anti-semite, if they like. (For what it’s worth, Gaskin claims to sympathize with victims of “tyranny,” but in TrumpWorld that includes not only the victims of Nazi genocide, but also anyone who believes Trump’s election lies). The best jibe of all, though, is this one: She calls her business “HatWRKS.” From there, it’s a very short step to “Hateworks.”
