“The owner of a Wisconsin zoo is stupefied over how his ‘unathletic’ and ‘overweight’ alligator got loose,” The Hill reported on Monday, May 24, 2021 (read story here). The animal, which has been at the private zoo for 35 years, can barely open its mouth.
He told a local TV station his gators moved outdoors from their winter quarters last week, and when he went to feed them on Saturday, one was missing. “There was no sign of the enclosure being breached in any way or the gator digging underneath or anything. It’s just very strange,” he said.
Update (5/25/21): He’s baaack! And, it seems, he didn’t go far. Rex was found in “a swampy area” of the zoo property. Who would’ve guessed a gator would head for a swamp? Read the story of his capture here.
