Well, not yet, but Oregon’s Trumpers are trying.
“Voters in five rural Oregon counties approved measures on Tuesday to consider joining the state of Idaho,” because they don’t like being governed by Democrats, The HIll reported on May 19, 2021. In which case, why stop with a few counties; why not annex the entire state?
They wouldn’t have that problem in Idaho. That state voted 64%-33% for Trump, and Democrats are so rare in Idaho’s legislature you need a microscope to find them.
Question: Why don’t they just pack up and move across the state line? It’s not far from their current digs. Oh, I see. They want to take the dirt with them.
This isn’t going anywhere for now, but it might if, say, the Democrats succeed in granting statehood to D.C. and Puerto Rico, and then Republicans retaliate by carving off chunks of Oregon and California and giving them to Idaho. That would set off a tit-for-tat, and in the future, state boundaries might be redrawn after every election — with plenty of gerrymandering, of course.
And school children would have to learn a new map of the United States every two years.
