Joe Biden is a popular president.
Most polls show his approval rating in mid- to high-50s. RealClearPolitics is a good source for up-to-date poll results, which you can find here.
And now, “The percentage of Americans who said the country is generally headed in the right direction has nearly doubled since former President Donald Trump left office in January, according to an NBC News survey released [on] Sunday,” May 9, 2021 (read story here).
What did you expect?
Many voters — at least 81 million of them — just breathed a great big sigh of relief that he won. Then came more stimulus checks, $1400 this time (more for families with kids), which made a lot of people happy (but not congressional Republicans, not one of whom voted for it).
It’s been smooth sailing for Biden so far, but this is probably as good as it gets. Nearly everything else on Democrats’ wishlist, foremost among them a House-passed bill to prevent Republicans from keeping the voters who elected Biden from voting in the future — is about to hit a filibuster wall. Meanwhile, the GOP is sinking ever-deeper into the Trump cesspool of racism, lies, insurrection, and incompetence, while Biden drops hints he intends to run again and his team weighs the likelihood of a rematch with Trump.
