Ohio State’s Buckeyes No. 2-seeded basketball team lost to No. 15-seeded Oral Roberts University in the national tournament’s first round, “making Ohio State the ninth No. 2 seed in NCAA Tournament history to lose an opening round game, according to WCMH-TV, the NBC affiliate in Columbus, Ohio.”
Disappointment is one thing, but what followed this is extremely disheartening.
After the game, Ohio State forward E.J. Liddell received “threats and hateful messages … from angry fans” that included “racial insults and direct threats of harm,” NBC News reported on Saturday, March 20, 2021. Read story here.
It’s not really news. We all know how awful some sports fans can be, and how racist some people are. Combine the two and you get a toxic brew.
