Mike Solan (photo), president of the Seattle Police Officers Guild, tried to blame the U.S. Capitol insurrection incited by Trump and perpetrated by his followers on Black Lives Matter and “the far left.”
Solan, a rightwing extremist who’s been criticized in the past for controversial public statements, immediately came under fire from top Seattle officials. Mayor Jenny Durkan and several city council members demanded he resign from his union position, and both the present and immediate-past police chiefs blasted his remarks.
A former city attorney candidate accused Solan of “deliberately spreading disinformation” and said he’s “forfeited trust” and isn’t a credible spokesperson for Seattle police rank-and-file.
The Seattle Office of Police Accountability said it’s investigating Solan’s comments.
Meanwhile, two Seattle police officers are on administrative leave while under investigation for allegedly participating in last Wednesday’s violent attempt in Washington D.C. to overthrow the U.S. government.
